PDGA 2008 Updates
Disc Golf NewsThe Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) has changed quite a lot when it comes to the game of disc golf for 2008. Aside from several technical disc specification changes that caused the disqualification of such discs as the turbo putter, the PDGA has changed how divisions are broken up by ratings. The largest edits were to the amateur division which has been provided here:

Essentially what has changed the most is the addition of the "Novice" division which was formerly known as "AM IV" or "Amateur Division 4". It has been argued that this rating change will be beneficial to lower rung players who, with the older rating system, had a harder time competing against higher run players within the old "Recreational" division. If you are a new player it can be rather daunting to look at the table and to understand where you stand as a player. To play it safe just play Novice, that way you can gauge your performance. However, as a common courtesy to other players you should be able to know where you stand based on your own personal comparison to friends who may already be PDGA members. If you always shoot at the same level as your best friend and he's rung at 895, chances are you can the gamble and play Recreational.

The complete guide to the ratings system and the official break down of divisions can be found at the PDGA link here (PDF).

Hope this update was helpful. If you still find any part of the information to be unclear or confusing feel free to e-mail us and we'll gladly respond to the best of our knowledge.

Also: PDGA is updating individual player rankings April 29th, 2008 with a submission deadline of April 15th. Good luck!
